Around film
Géant is the third and last film where James Dean appears, which committed suicide in the car on September 30th, 1955, on a road of California, a few days after the end of turning. True epopee (the film lasts more than 3 hours) which precedes the series TV Dallas, Géant tells the change of the Texas at the time of discovered oil wells. The film opposes the Benedict family, and her Jordan chief, interprets by Rock Hudson, and the young person ranchman become then an oil tycoon, Jett Rink, incarnated by James Dean. This last did not get along with the realizer George Stevens, with whom it had many clashes during turning, just like with Rock Hudson besides, which did not include/understand the methods of the young disciple of the Actors Studio. On the other hand, Dean had been in Elizabeth Taylor, which plays the woman of Hudson in film, allied of size. The two young actors became good friends, but were never lovers sometimes as the legend lets it hear. To note that Dennis Hopper, which had already appeared in the Fury of living , found with Géant its first great role with the cinema. It was, him also, a good friend of James Dean.
