Gerard Schneider

Gerard Schneider (1896 - 1986) is a painter Suisse, naturalized French in 1948, news Ecole of Paris, pertaining to the current of the Lyric abstraction.

Biography

Gerard Schneider was born with Holy-Cross in the canton from Vaud, in Switzerland on April 28th, 1896 and passes his childhood to Neuchâtel where it makes his studies. In February 1916 it goes to Paris, attends the National school of Decorative Arts then in 1918 the National school of the Art schools.

After having begun in the Impressionism then the Surrealism, he attends Soulages and Hartung and finds his own expression towards 1955: the not-geometrical abstraction " informelle".

He dies in Paris in May 1986.

Schneider belongs to the painters brought together for the exposure " Lyrical flight, Paris 1945-1956" presented to the Museum of Luxembourg (Senate), April-August 2006. It is one of its fabrics which is reproduced for the poster and the cover of the catalog of the exposure.
