Georges Urbain
Georges Urbain , born the April 12th 1872 with Paris, dead the November 5th 1938 with Paris is a Chimiste French.
Former student of the University of industrial physics and chemistry of the town of Paris (9° promotion), it works as preparer with the Faculty of Science of Paris where it studies the Rare earths.
In 1907, he discovers the element Lutécium (Z=71) by separating the Oxydes from Ytterbium and Lutécium. He is also the discoverer of the Celtium called thereafter Hafnium (Z=72) and obtains for the first time of the Gadolinium (Z=64) in a pure state in 1935.
In 1908, it is named professor of chemistry of the minerals to the Faculty of Science of the Université of Paris and proposes a unification of the theories of the chemical bonds of the chemistry of the complexes and chemistry of minerals. He becomes chemistry teacher general while ensuring the direction of the institute of chemistry applied of 1928 to 1938 and that of the Rockefeller Institute of biological physicochemistry Paris for the chemistry part in collaboration with the physicist Jean Perrin.
In 1921, it is elected member of the Academy of Science.
