A todo list , of English to C , to make, means list of the things to make . The todo list is a simple and effective process which makes it possible to concentrate on a task of a project without to lose sight of the fact the other tasks to be achieved. The lists todo are declined in multiple ways: for example, a project manager who notes the bugs to be corrected and functionalities to be programmed built a todo list. Trivialement, a Post-it with a list of races to be made is also a todo list!
For those which use a Ordinateur or an unspecified electronic assistant, a todo list indicates sometimes a file which contains the enumeration of what the people fix themselves like tasks to carry out. This file is often simple a Textual file, rather gross, with possibly of the sections corresponding to various fields of action, or with the various under-parts of a project.
For team work, one can find also there names of people to whom these tasks fall. On other occasions, the tasks to be made on the contrary are gathered in a software application dedicated specifically to this mission. Such applications in general allow a follow-up of work carried out, even a hierarchisation of the tasks between them (preliminary, subsequent) or of the functions of invoicing in parallel, for the most complete software one leads then quickly to Planification.
History of the use of the term
The term todo used as substantive appears in the first anglophone writings dealing with management of time with the neighborhoods of 1910. It was quickly adopted by the Anglo-Saxon culture since. Let us mention while passing that a todo list is distinguished from a diary in this that its elements are not related to one day or a specific hour. One includes/understands better this distinction when one makes the error to register his things to be made directly on the day laborer page of a diary, to then have several times to recopy them at the following day, parce the task was not carried out.
The todo list under development software
The developers of Free software make public such lists concerning their project, so that everyone can know in which direction the project will evolve/move. In this specific case, a todo list also constitutes an invitation to contribute while knowing which are the present needs.
The elements present in a todo list are generally crossed out once realized, in order to measure total advance quickly.
For software projects, these elements should be in the long term found in the newspaper of the improvements and modifications made to the program ChangeLog.
