Geography of Sudan
The Sudan is the largest country of Africa. It has borders common with
- the Egypt to north;
- the Libya, the Chad and the Central African Republic in the west;
- the Democratic republic of Congo, the Uganda and the Kenya in the south;
- the Ethiopia and the Érythrée in the east.
Sudan is bordered in the North-East by the Red Sea on approximately 700 km.
Relief
The near total of Sudan consists of a vast plate whose altitude varies from 300 with 1 200 meters. The mountainous chains are located in edge of the Red Sea, in the west in the province of the Darfur (Djebel Marra, 3.071 meters) and in the south in the mounts Imatong where maximum altitude is reached with the mount Kete with 3.187 meters.
Sudan is crossed by the the Nile and its two affluents: the White Nile ( Bahr Al-Abiadh ) which provides water in period of dryness and the Blue Nile ( Bahr Al-Azraq ) to the more irregular flow. The junction of the two Nile is done with Khartoum.
The areas north and east are desert: the Deserted of Nubie, made up of sand and rocks, made following the deserts Egyptian and Libyan.
