Geography of Ethiopia
Located in the middle of the horn of the East Africa, Ethiopia has to it tenth larger surface of the Africa with a territory of 1 ' 127 ' 127 km ².
Ethiopia is framed by the Érythrée in north, Djibouti and the Somalia in the east, the Kenya in the south and the Sudan in the west. It is a ground of contrast where the landscapes constantly change from one area to another, creating the microcosm of a whole continent in a country of the size of the France and joined together Spain. This contrast is mainly due to the volcanic activity which formed this area, approximately forty million year ago. Major faults then opened in the sedimentary rock and layers letting the basaltic lava slowly cover the ground. The Rift Valley splits the country in three distinct areas: Western high plateaus, Eastern high plateaus, and plains of the Valley Rift itself.
In the center of the country the high plateaus culminate at altitudes of 4.000 meters, with the top of the Ras Dashen which rises with 4.620 meters in the solid mass of the Simien. These vast basaltic plates are deeply notched by two rivers which run out in direction of the the Nile, Abbaï, resulting from the lake Tana and which corresponds to the higher course of the Blue Nile and Takazzé.
Lastly, in the south and the west of the plains of the Valley Rift, the rains are abundant all the year and in the provinces of Kaffa and Sidamo, the coffee which growth naturally is cultivated there in large plantations.
