Geoffroi Malaterra

Geoffroi Malaterra is a Norman chronicler of.

Monk Benedictine with the monastery of Saint-Évroult in Country of Ouche, Geoffroi Malaterra leaves it in its youth for the monasteries of Sant' Eufemia then of Sant' Agate to Catane in Sicily, where the count Roger of Sicily, that he knew personally, charged it with writing his biography.

It wrote a chronicle, one of three principal which tells the operations Normans in the Mediterranean, in particular sicilian forwardings of Roger of Sicily. Geoffroi reports the first campaigns of Roger, based on the oral tradition which it had collected.

Geoffroi is often the single source currently available about the wars of Roger in Sicily. After having brought back the Byzantine countryside of Robert Guiscard, his account touches only in Roger.

Stopping with 1099, its chronicle can be regarded as the official story of the court of Roger of Sicily.
