Geoffrey Oryema

Geoffrey Oryema , is a musician, composer-songwriter and singer of rock'n'roll/world music, born the April 16th 1953 with Soroti, in Uganda. It took refuge in France in 1977 to flee the dictatorship of Amin Dada after the accident of his Ministre father, suspected of hiding an assassination by the Ugandan capacity. It is established with Lillebonne (Seine-Maritime) in 1989, then Marie with a Frenchwoman shortly after and obtains French nationality.

It recorded its first album Exile in 1990, produced by Brian Eno, and published by the famous label Real World by Peter Gabriel. It is accompanied to create its music of various typically African instruments whose Kora but does not scorn either the electric guitar and the instruments rock'n'roll. He sings in English, Ugandan and French. As of this first album he quickly was an international success with Ye Ye Ye (generic of the emission of France 2, the Circle of Midnight). The French and international press often has depicts it like a " Leonard Cohen africain" and covers it praises.

He affirms himself more and more like a African artist assuming his " influences; rock" , creator and artist with whole share and very appreciated on the international music scene like Lokua Kanza or Richard Bona.
