GeneRally
GeneRally is a video game of automobile race created by the Hannu brothers and Jukka Räbinä and distributed in Gratuiciel. The first version dated May 16th, 2002, and the last, version 1.05 dated December 22nd, 2003, but a community of players it is formed and perennializes since the play by the addition of new circuits, vehicles, and the organization of competitions. Without news of the creators of the play from the release of the version 1.0.5 and themselves having acknowledged not to work more on GeneRally, the current version is most probably the final version.
Gameplay
GeneRally is a play of race which can be practiced to six candidates simultaneously (controlled by human or a computer). It however is not made to be played in network, and the multijouor mode is done by the means of controls of the same computer.
Although the graphic engine is in 3D, the plunging prospect and fixes used makes it possible to see the evolution of all the cars. The play is connected thus with plays of arcade much older - as for example Super Sprint or Slicks “Slide - so much on the level of the appearance only of the handiness. The circuits are thus rather small and are connected more with circuits of Karting than to circuits of Formule 1.
The interface of launching of a part makes it possible to select the candidates, the whole of the races of the championship, to regulate the level of the Artificial intelligence. An editor of circuits is included with the play.
The majority of the cars available are habillables: it is possible to personalize their appearance by choosing the color of the carossery and its helmet. The initial play proposes to the players to clash on a score of races with ten different vehicles, but it is possible to download many extensions in order to add and to design circuits and new vehicles.
Necessary configuration
GeneRally is not a large play, thus it functions correctly in the majority of the cases. However some problems were noted with Windows Vista (problems of postings, decelerations)-
Processor 200 MHz
- 16 Mo of RAM
- 2 Mo of memory Hard drive
- Windows 95 or more recent.
- DirectX 8.0 or better.
The Community
One communautée was formed on the official forum as of the beginnings of the play. It is still active although the last official update of the program goes back to 2003.
Creation of circuit
The play is provided with an editor of circuits and much of new charts were thus created. These files are exchanged on the official forum and third sites, after an incident put an end to the division circuits/cars via the official site. A big number of circuits are available today and of all types: circuits of F1, karting, rallys, motocross, tracks of cascade (stunt)… Certain atypical circuits change the traditional principle for a play of the type football, trial (course of obstacles), of combat Sumo (a car must leave there another).
Every month, of the members of the community elects the circuit of the month.
Creation of vehicles
There exists by defect 12 cars which go from the type Formule 1, with the Monster truck, while passing by the cars of Karting. They are stored in the form of file whose format is limited to 40 polygons and 30 tops maximum. An editor of third vehicle was developed and thus allowed the creation and the exchange of new means of transport. The community organizes contests of creation, and organized to produce vehicles with the request.
Competitions
Although the play is not designed to function in network, of the competitions were organized, in particular by the official site, like HotLaps, of the race of GRASCAR (stock because), GPF1 (Formula 1), or a 24 Hours adaptation of Mans. National communities, in particular Brazilian, French or Italian, also organized competitions in their language. World classifications of pilots were also set up, of which GeneRally World Ranking, always under operation. There exist mainly three types of events:
-
“hotlaps” (better turn): on a circuit given with a given car the player must carry out best possible time on a lathe with an unlimited number of turns of circuits. This discipline is more répendue because it is simple to organize.
-
“timetrials” (against-the-watch): the player must carry out minimum time for a number of finished turn.
-
“races” (races): on the principle of the timetrial, the player must carry out his time with one or more players computers against him.
More recently, of the competitions known as " login" have made their appearance (such as for example the FSS, or more recently the GR. A1 Grand Prix), certain competitions have even changed their operating process to become competitions login (like the GWL, the competition which brings together the best players of the previous month), this system consists with the player with " logger" on the site of the competition in order to download the files " officiels" or its final time will be recorded, once " loggé" , the pilot has a time limited to make his time and to return it (in general enough of time to make an attempt and to send the files necessary to the checking), this system has inter alia, the advantage of allowing to the organizers a better control received times. Since August 27th, 2007, jo.sk put has provision with the public an Excel file, making it possible to generate the pages and files necessary for this kind of competition so that everyone can organize this kind of competition.
