Geel
Geel is a common city and Dutch-speaking of Belgium located in Flemish Région in the Province of Antwerp.
The city is under the patronage of Sainte Dymphna.
Functions
Geel fulfills several functions: agrarian, industrial and also commercial. A little more than 250 establishments, whose majority are concentrated around the four parishes of center, of it are the best proof. The function of center is also very important: fire protection organization, the police force, hospital and teaching. Thanks to Katholieke Hogeschool Kempen, Geel developed until a center of teaching where many young people can follow the orientation of studies which they wish.
Center family care
Geel is also known for its center of family care in psychiatry. Each patient is placed in a family of reception, which enables him to take part to the maximum with the family life. At the base of this form of care is the martyrdom Sainte Dymphna (or Dimpna) with the Middle Ages with Geel.
Tourism
Geel is also interesting for tourism: old natural areas, forests and the Dune S, the reserve of birds, banks of small and large the Nèthe, and the many treasures of its artistic inheritance are good examples. The central point is the pleasant place on the market, vis-a-vis the Amand church. With its attracting terraces and the easy carpark, it is a stage sought by the hiker who visits the Campine. Moreover, Geel has several curiosities: a field of orchises, a secular Lime, three windmills, an English military cemetery (street Tweeboomkes) and a great number of interesting monuments. The college Saint-Alexis was decorated of Sgraffite S Art nouveau by Gabriel van Dievoet.
