Gaston V of Béarn

Gaston V of Béarn was Viscount of Béarn, Gabardan and Brulhois, of 1153 until its death in 1170.
With died his/her father Pierre II of Béarn in 1153, Gaston, still minor, inherited the title of Viscount. His/her grandmother Guiscarde was named regent, but she died in 1154. The assembly inhabitant of Béarn then placed Gaston under the supervision of Raimond-Berenger IV of Barcelona (Hommage of Canfranc in 1154). Thus the Viscount of Béarn, until there principality nearly independent and allied of equal to equal of the Kingdom of Aragon, became vassal Crown of Aragon.
Once major, Gaston married towards 1165 Beatrice de Navarre, girl of Garcia Ramirez de Navarre, king de Navarre, and of Urraca de Castille, natural girl of Alphonse VII of Castille.
He was made monk of the Ordre of Malta and died without descent on April 30th, 1170.
His/her sister Marie de Béarn succeeded to him.
