Garðabær is a municipality of large the Reykjavík in Iceland. The city had a population of approximately 9000 inhabitants in 2004.

History

At the times of the creation of Iceland, during the 9th century, there were two farms in the area of the current city. These farms had as names: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir. The name of the first farm comes from Vífill, the name of serving of the first Icelandic colonist Ingólfur Arnarson.

Economy

On the territory of this commune the Industrial Park of Molduhraun oú is in particular the head office of the mark Icelander of textile 66°Nord, as well as the single Ikea store of the country.
