Comments
The Monty Python appear almost complete, and are joined in particular by Sean Connery and George Harrison which signs the credits and produces film. The Monty Python spirit is thus very present, and this film will not be able to convince its detractors.
For whoever the shifted humor of the group tastes, awkwardnesses of Terry Gilliam still beginning (plane and assemblies not very required) are erased by its exubérance, which in return gives to film a very disordered aspect. It is partly this merry disorder which makes the charm of this tale, while letting show through a rich scenario (varied times and places, each meeting with a legendary hero is very different from the others), progressive (late introduction of the Evil) without being linear (rebellion of the dwarves…) and full with marvellous (dwarves, legends, fight of the Good against the Evil), connecting the gags not always schoolkids (flight of the Greeks…) : one has a presentiment of already future films of Terry Gilliam, which shows a beautiful imagination in the resumption of the most known legends (Napoleon and Robin of parodied Wood, the Ogre as presented in the tales, and very human Agammemnon…).
The inequality of the unit prevents it from being worship, but the epilog initially désopilant and with the many references (until Saturnin, which one had been able to believe unknown to the British!), then almost serious through the questions which it raises, delights the spectators sensitive to humor Monty Pythonesque.
