Gabriel Prosser

Gabriel Prosser (Henrico County, Virginia, approx. 1775 - 1800) was a Esclave Afro-américain which in 1800 projected a revolt of 1.100 slaves.

Initially delayed by the rain, this revolt had never taken place because the Masters of the slaves had had wind of what was brooded.

Biography

Born like the slave from Thomas Prosser, Gabriel had two brothers: Solomon and Martin. As much of another slaves, the father of Gabriel was a blacksmith, Gabriel and Solomon was intended to make this trade.

The rebellion of Gabriel

Gabriel had méticuleusement to prepare the revolt during the summer. August 30th, 1800, Gabriel d" cide to carry out the slaves in Richmond, but of the rains torrential prevented the rebellion from being held according to the plans. Moreover, the Masters of the slaves had had a presentiment of rising. The governor of Virginia James Monroe was alerted and it called upon the militia of state. Gabriel tried to escape while descending the river towards Norfolk but he was seen and betrayed by another slave for a reward. The slave touched only part of the promised sum. Gabriel was then to bring back to Richmond to undergo a interogatoire which he refused to answer. Gabriel, its two brothers and twenty four their companions were then hung.
