GUI of Custom

GUI of Custom is one of the four Troubadour S of Custom (Corrèze), with his/her brothers Ebles and Pèire, and its Elias cousin. Few of its texts reached us. He died little before 1225.

GUI of Custom was Chanoine of Brioude and Montferrant, but courted and composed several songs in the honor of Marguerite of Aubusson, wife of Rainaud VI of Aubusson, of Marie of Ventadour, the countess of Montferrand, and of Gidas de Mondas, niece of Guilhem of Montpellier and German cousin of the queen of Aragon Marie of Montpellier.

Because of its ecclesiastical state, Pierre de Castelnau, papal legate Innocent III finally made him swear towards 1209 to give up the music.

It remains us of GUI of Custom eight songs, three pastourelles and nine let us tensons, which were reproduced by the Italian Ferrari of Ferrare in its anthology.
