Götz von Berlichingen
Götz von Berlichingen (also named Gottfried von Berlichingen , or Godefroy de Berlichingen ) was a called German knight ( Iron hand ), Mercenaire. He was born in a noble family with the Château from Jagsthausen) in the Württemberg towards 1480, died in 1562 castle in Hornberg. Its currency was und wise er ihm, er plate mich im Arsche lecken . It is the Germanic equivalent of the Bayard Knight.
It took a glorious share with the wars that delivered themselves the voters of Brandebourg and of Bavaria at the beginning of the 16th century. Having lost a hand, it was made some do one out of iron, from where the nickname under which it is known. He writes itself the history of his adventures (published in 1731 and 1858).
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe took it for hero of one of his dramas. Jean-Paul Sartre will make of him the hero of one of his plays.
At the time of the Second world war, a regiment Nazi of Waffen-SS takes its name, the 17.SS Panzergrenadier Division '' Götz von Berlichingen ''.
