French highway A16

The highway A16 , baptized European the , is a French Autoroute . The portion between Dunkirk and Abbeville belongs to the Autoroute of the Estuaries.

Long, it 312 km connects to Isle-Adam in the Val-d'Oise to the border with the Belgium with the height of Bray-Dunes in the Northern . It serves successively Beauvais, Amiens, Abbeville in Picardy, Boulogne, Calais and Dunkirk in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. It is parallel to the littoral of the Manche starting from Abbeville, then with that of the the North Sea starting from Calais. It takes again in that most of the route of old RN1.

Between Isle-Adam and Boulogne, his management is conceded with the Sanef. Between Boulogne and Belgium, they are the departmental managements of the equipment (DDE) of the Pas-de-Calais and the North which are occupied some. This last section is free of toll.

Between Abbeville and Boulogne, A16 is often disadvised with the caravans because of the strong wind which blows coming from the English Channel.

Future connection in Francilienne

The studies of preliminary draft of the connection of A16 to the highway network francilien and A104 are in hand. They were finalized in spring 2006, and four alternatives are proposed. A dialog on the studies in progress took place in the communes concerned with the in February 2006 project in the form of exposure of panels.

The public survey, commune with the prolongation of a16 highway like to its two related operations (refitting of the exchanger of the Green Cross and requalification of the RN1), should have proceeded with the second half-year 2006. The objective of beginning of work was 2009 for a startup in 2012. This new section of 8,5 km free of toll and will be conceded to the SANEF.

The National Commission of the public debate decided, on June 7th, 2006, to organize a public debate on this project, following its sasine by the District council of Ile de France and Natural France Environment.

The debate will take place from September 11th to November 24th, 2007.
