Frederic Ier de Bade (1826-1907)

Frederic Ier de Bade (Friedrich Ier von Baden), born the September 9th 1826 with Karlsruhe, deceased the September 28th 1907 with the island of Mainau (Bade-Wurtemberg).

He was large duke of Bade of 1856 with 1907.

Biography

Because of the mental deficiency of his older brother Louis II of Bade, Frederic II had assured regency 1852 with 1858 date of the death of his brother. He became large duke of Bade (1858).

He was regarded by his contemporaries as a defender of the Constitutional monarchy. During its reign, the civil wedding was adopted in the duchy of Bade as well as the direct elections with the Room of the Parliament of Bade (1904). In 1871, with the proclamation of the German empire, Frederic Ier de Bade was present during the signature at Versailles.

Frederic Ier de Bade died in his residence of summer located on the island of Mainau (Bade-Wurtemberg). Today Mainau is the property of the heirs to the prince Lennart Bernadotte.

Frederic Ier de Bade belonged to the fourth branch of the Maison of Bade, itself resulting from the first branch of the ducal House of Bade, it belonged to the line of Baden-Durlach known as line Ernestine founded by Ernest de Bade-Durlach. This always existing line is currently represented by the prince Maximilien de Bade.
