Francoise Giroud
Francoise Giroud , born Lea France Gourdji the September 21st 1916 with Lausanne in Suisse, and dead the January 19th 2003 at the American Hospital of Neuilly-sur-Seine is a journalist, writer and French political woman. She takes the name of Giroud per decree of July 12th, 1964.
Vice-president of the Left radical socialist and the UDF, it was Minister for the Culture, and was a major personality of the political press in France.
Biography
Girl of Salih Gourdji, director of the Othoman telegraphic Agency taken refuge political, which dies in 1919, and of Elda Farragi, Jewish sépharate, it leaves the school at sixteen years. She founds in 1953 with Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, her lover, the Express train , which she directs until 1974 as a director of the drafting, then of the publication, and as president of the Express train-Union group, between 1970 and 1974.
She publishes simultaneously with her journalistic career several tests, of which the New wave, portrait of the youth in 1958, which imposes this term to qualify the style of the new scenario writers resulting from the Cahiers of the cinema.
In spite of a call to vote François Mitterrand in 1974, it militates within the Radical party for the social modernization promised by Valery Giscard d'Estaing and becomes Secretary of State near the Prime Minister, responsible for the Female condition, between July 1974 and August 1976, where it launches “hundred measurements” in favor of the women (installation of clean rights for the women, fights against discriminations, opening of the trades known as male, etc). As Secretary of State to the Culture until March 1977, it does not mark the ministry, ratifying the decisions taken before them like the law on the architecture of January 31st, 1977 and the creation of DRAC. Candidate with the municipal elections of 1977 at the request of Giscard d'Estaing, in XVe arrodissement of Paris, it is in the middle of a scandal orchestrated by Chiraquiens, the marshal's wife de Hautecloque, widow of the general Leclerc, publicly showing it to usurp the Médaille of Resistance. According to Christine Ockrent, a letter received by the mother of Francoise Giroud would prove that this decoration would have being allotted to Francoise and her sister, Djenane, but this one was finally given only to Djenane, died with its return of deportation, of the camp of Ravensbruck, in May 1945. This scandal involves its withdrawal of the Parisian elections, and its not-taken back within the new Barre government.
It leaves the policy in 1979 and of its frequentation of golds of the capacity, it writes the Comedy of the capacity then Good pleasure (1983), adapted to the cinema. Associated with a group of French intellectuals whose Bernard-Henri Levy, Jacques Attali, Philippe Mahrer, Marek Halter, Alfred Kastler (Nobel Prize of physics), Guy Sorman and Robert Sebbag like with doctors, journalists and writers, it founded in 1979 association Action Against the Hunger (ACF).
To its exit of the government, the Express train comes to be sold with Jerry Goldsmith, and Raymond Aron, leader-writer of the magazine, is opposed to its rehabilitation. In 1983, Jean Daniel proposes to him to be a leader-writer with the Nouvel observer, where she writes during twenty years. It also produces several television programs and publishes tests, biographies and novels with success. It is then called like member of the jury of the Prix Femina in 1992.
It was also member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence.
Francoise Giroud is the mother of the pédopsychiatre and psychoanalyst Caroline Eliacheff.
