Francis Garnier was born the July 25th 1835 with Saint-Etienne and died the December 21st 1873 with Hanoï.

Marie Joseph François (Francis) Garnier is a Naval officer French known to have explored the Mekong.

After voyages accomplished in the navy towards Brazil and the Pacific, it was named near the admiral Charner, in Cochinchine.
