François Hennebique

François Hennebique (April 26th 1842 - Paris March 7th 1921) was born in the small town from Neuville-Saint-Vaast, between Lens and Arras. In Neuville-Saint-Vaast, one can notice, with 64, rue du Canada, a medallion carrying the inscription “François Hennebique, inventor of reinforced concrete construction, was born on April 25th, 1842 here”.

In 1860, he becomes mason and decides can of time after putting itself on his own account. He then leaves 20 years to Brussels. He is the inventor of the armed Béton. It is in 1879 qu' it runs its first reinforced concrete flagstone. In 1892, it builds its first reinforced concrete building and installs its company with like slogan there: “More disastrous fires”. In 1899, it designed and built the first civil reinforced concrete bridge of France, the bridge Camille-with-Hogues with Châtellerault.

In order to show the exceptional possibilities of its material, it employed it to build a residence with the original architecture, which one can easily notice opposite the Lakanal college, close to station the RER of Borough-the-Queen. Constructions are connected then: docks of Manchester, the tunnel of Newcastle, the stage of Lyon
