Foot-warmer

A foot-warmer is an small apparatus of heating (often portable) making it possible to be heated.

Formerly, it was a small box, one filled it of embers drawn from the chimney, one posed the feet above then one recovered the legs of a cover so that heat also goes up along the legs. That made it possible hot at the time of to have taken care of winter, by peeling garlics, onions, nut or by sorting mushrooms collected in the course of the day.

There exist foot-warmers out of doubled iron wooden inside, cast iron, iron, brass or copper. There exists about it even of pocket: that made it possible to be hot the hands by keeping them in the pockets!

There exists different type of foot-warmer today:

  • refractory Foot-warmer

  • Foot-warmer with sticks
  • chemical Foot-warmer

Electric foot-warmer

Of this category of foot-warmer declined itself several types:

  • radiant Radiator: Apparatus using of the heaters (ceramic or not) to disperse heat by radiation, like its name says it

  • halogenous Radiateur: Type of foot-warmer relatively similar to the radiant ones, which however uses halogenous lamps as heaters
  • Radiateur with Air Force: Commonly called radiator-ventilator or even pulso-radiator, it is the type of portable appliance the heating most common. It uses a ventilator in addition to the heaters (métals or ceramics), the ventilator being used to disperse heat more quickly, which is useful for a Caravane for example.
  • Radiator with oil bath: Apparatus resembling much a Radiator with warm water, but which is filled with oil and seal. Oil is used to store the heat, which reduces the number of cycles goes/stop.

There exist more or less effective chauffrettes, c.a.d. having a better or less energetic efficiency dependently of their transfer mode heat. The most effective methods to heat the environment domesticates are the solid exchanger/air and the convector.
