At the beginning of the Years 1930, the Pirates of Pittsburgh of the LNH were moved in Philadelphia and famous " Quakers" , after only one season when Philadelphia gained only four of its 44 matches, the Quakers were dissolus by the league.

Before the arrival of Flyers in 1967, several teams of minor and professional circuits worked in Philadelphia; when the LNH put at research new cities for its expansion of 1967, the plans of new an arena major were already moving. At once the frankness granted to Bill Putnam and Jerry Wolman, the latter bought the concession of the Aces of Quebec of the American Ligue of hockey to make their club school of it.

Financial problems pushed Wolman to sell 60% of its shares with ED Snider. Bud Poile was named first managing director and Keith Allen, trainer. Doug Favell and Bernard Parent was fished out via the fishing out of expansion, selections which proved to be judicious since the duet of guards finished this first season with the third rank of the LNH on the level of the granted goals.

They selected also ED Van Impe, John Miszuk, Lou Angotti, Pat Hannigan, Joe Watson, Gary Dornhoefer and Forbes Kennedy. Then they made sign the free agents Jean Gauthier, Leon Rochefort and Brit Selby, while Claude Laforge, John Hanna, Simon Nolet, André Lacroix and Jean-Guy Gendron arrived at Philadelphia coming from Aces of Quebec. First sizeable season where they finished in the forefront of the weak Western division. In the last month of the season, the roof of Spectrum crumbled after a spring storm and Flyers had to play all outside their matches… the Blues of St-Louis were going to eliminate them in seven meetings at the time of the first round. Tops and bottoms at the time of the four following seasons, Flyers missed the series twice and were made leave in first on the two other occasions.

After the season 71-72, ED Snider engaged Fred Shiro as trainer chief and this last was at the origin of the “Broad Street Bullies” which were going to terrorize their adversaries by their physical play. New faces took seat in alignment, Bill Barber and Rick MacLeish was going to give a knack to the ED Van Impe, Bobby Clarke, Barry Ashby and Bernie Parent. The season 1973-74 marked the beginning of the domination of Flyers, they were going to reach the finale of the Coupe Stanley at the time of the three following ones, gaining the championship at the time of the first two occasions… Bernie Parent was seen giving the Trophée Idiot Smythe each time. After three other large seasons, Flyers were of return finally in 1980, but were to be acknowledged overcome vis-a-vis the Islanders of New York which gained a first of four consecutive Stanley cuts. Bobby Clarke announced its retirement following the season 83-84 and was named managing director of the team a few months later. The following season marked the emergence of a young Swedish guard who was going to gain the Trophée Vézina, Pelle Lindbergh. In spite of the loss of Clarke, Flyers cumulated 113 points and reached the finale for then inclining itself vis-a-vis the Oilers d' Edmonton. In November 1985, Pelle Lindbergh was killed in an car accident, a few moments hardly after a training session of Flyers. Bob Froese was going to be its substitute. In spite of this heavy loss, Flyers knew another brilliant season, under the control surface of the trainer Mike Keenan, the Brian m., Tim Kerr, Mark Howe, Ilkka Sinisalo and Dave Poulin carried out Flyers towards the tops, however the absence of a guard of foreground was felt in series whereas Flyers were inclined vis-a-vis the Rangers of New York in first round.

In 1986-87, a young guard resulting from their subsidiary company of the Bears de Hershey, Ron Hextall, was established as a number one and brought back Flyers finally, the Oilers d' Edmonton were once again to play the spoilsport, but Hextall gained nevertheless the Trophée Idiot Smythe. The following season, Flyers were made leave in first round vis-a-vis the Capitals Washington and Keenan was replaced by Paul Holmgren, this last finally took along Flyers of conference in 1989 undergoing elimination against the Canadian of Montreal. In 1989-90, Flyers missed the series for the first in 18 years, Bobby Clarke left for the Minnesota and Russ Farwell replaced it. After another exclusion of the series in 91 and one slow beginning of season 91-92, Holmgren was congédié and one attended the beginning of a long parade of trainers behind the bench of Flyers: between 1992 and 2002, Bill Dineen, Terry Simpson, Terry Murray, Wayne Cashman, Roger Nielson, Craig Ramsey and Bill Barber was going to ravel in turn with the bar of Flyers.

Time was with the rebuilding, Eric Lindros, fished out by the Nordiques of Quebec, refused to join Scandinavian and was exchanged in Flyers in return of Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, the first two choices of Flyers, (Jocelyn Thibault), $ 15.000.000 and of the future considerations (Chris Simon). At its first season with Philadelphia in 92-93, Lindros marked 41 goals in 61 matches, but Flyers also missed the series for one 4th consecutive year in spite of the significant contributions by Mark Recchi and Rod Brind' Amour. The following year, they were once again excluded from the series and Bobby Clarke returned to Philadelphia as fine DG putting at the sad reign of Farwell. At the dawn of the season curtailed by the lock out into 94-95, Clarke named Terry Murray trainer chief and acquired of John Leclair, Eric Desjardins and Gilbert Dionne of the Canadian of Montreal in return of Mark Recchi and Flyers was of return among the powers of the league. The following years were going to be marked by the many wounds of Lindros, however, LeClair became the first meter of 50 goals of Flyers since Tim Kerr, it carried out this exploit three times. In spite of the superb regular seasons, Flyers were unable to put the hand on the Stanley cut what was going to cost the station several trainers. On its side, Bobby Clarke never succeeded in obtaining the goalkeeper so much desired who would make the difference at the time of the eliminating heats. Thus Hextall, John Vanbiesbrouck, Brian Butcher, Romance Čechmánek, Sean Burke and Robert Esche ravelled in front of the nets as a number one between 1998 and 2004. In 2000, Lindros was exchanged in Rangers of New York, leaving the task with LeClair, Recchi (of return to Philadelphia), Keith Primeau, Simon Gagné and Eric Desjardins to keep the team at the top. At the time of the following seasons, Flyers were going to launch out to the race to the autonomous players, Jeremy Roenick signed in 2001 and Tony Amonte was obtained Phoenix at the end of the season 2002-03. After another excellent season under the orders of Ken Hitchcock in 2003-04, Flyers inclined finally conference vis-a-vis the future champions of the cut Stanley, the Lightning de Tampa Bay.

The season 2006-07 will remain marked in the history of Flyers like one of poorest. Indeed, the team directed by Ken Hitchcock, replaced by John Stevens at the beginning of year, established several sad records of team, of which the greatest number of defeats (48), the smallest harvest of items (56), the most consecutive defeats (10) and the most consecutive defeats in front of their partisans (12). They even succeeded in beating the mark of the LNH for the greatest tumble in two seasons. From 101 points with the title of Atlantic division in 2005-06, Philadelphia is descended at only 56 points and the last row of the league at the time of the last season, is a memorable slip of 45 points.
