Flevoland
Twelfth and last province of the Netherlands, the province of the Flevoland is located at the east of Amsterdam and is entirely located under the sea level (up to -14 m), except the old islands Urk and Schokland.
This province was entirely created by the Netherlanders, thanks to the draining of the sea which was there until in 1932, year of the creation of the Afsluitdijk, literally the dam of closing. It made it possible to isolate this part of the territory from the sea. It was then necessary to drain the ground, according to the technique of the Polder S , and work lasted until in 1968.
The province of the Flevoland received its final name in 1986. The main cities are Lelystad (capital of the province), and Almere . With the last census (2002), the total population was of 341.500 inhabitants, with an Middle Age largely lower than the average of the country.
