Flag of Nigeria

The Drapeau of the Nigeria is the national symbol of Nigeria since the creation of the country on October 1st 1960.

History

In 1959 a contest is organized to draw the future flag of Nigeria. Among the 2870 proposals it is that of a student of Ibadan, Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, who is retained.

Symbolic system

The green represents agriculture, the white peace and the unit (“Peace and Unit” having been the first currency of Nigeria).
