Five points of the modern architecture

five points of the modern architecture , published in 1926 by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret under the title " five points of a news architecture" , their architectural ideas, developed during the previous years are the systematic summary.

These five points are:

  1. the Piloti S (the ground floor transformed into a space is released dedicated to circulations, the buildings obscure and wet are removed, the Jardin passes under the building),
  2. the Toit terrace (what means at the same time the renouncement of the traditional inclined roof, the roof terrace made thus accessible and being able to be used as Solarium, of or sports ground swimming pool, and the roof-garden.)
  3. the free Plan (removal of the walls and partitions carrying authorized by the structures of the type Poteau X-flagstones in Acier or in Reinforced concrete releases the space, whose cutting is made independent of the structure),
  4. the Fenêtre in length (it also, made possible by the structures post-flagstones relieving the stress of the lintel X),
  5. the free Façade (posts in withdrawal of the frontages, Plancher cantilever, the frontage becomes a thin skin of light walls and bays placed independently of the structure).

The five points show in fact the constructive principles developed with the the United States by the École of Chicago under the influence of the teaching of Purple-the-Duke. Begun again partially in Europe by the Architect S of the Art nouveau (Hector Guimard, whose school of the Sacred Heart built with Paris, in 1895, respects already four of the five points of the manufacturer helvète; only the roof remains inclined), they mingle the principles with it with the Mouvement hygienist of the end of 19th and the beginning of the 20th century aiming at a maximum exposure to the sun in order to fight against the Tuberculose.

The essential contribution of Le Corbusier consists of a systematization of its theories. Very many buildings of the Modern Movement, then international Style, will respect then these “five points of the modern architecture”.
