Ferdinand III of Tuscany

Ferdinand III, Large duke of Tuscany or, according to its complete titulature: Its Imperial and Royal Highness Ferdinand Joseph Jean-Baptiste, Large Duke of Tuscany of the house of Lorraine-Austria, Archduke of Austria, Prince of Hungary and Bohemia (May 6th 1769 - June 18th 1824). Born and died in Florence, Italy), was the second wire of Léopold II, Empereur of the Holy roman Empire (1747 - 1792) and his wife Marie-Louise de Bourbon, infante of Spain.

Ferdinand succeeds his/her father like large duke of Tuscany. It assembles on the throne in 1790, was forced by the English to take party against France, consequently saw its States invaded as of 1796 by Napoleon Bonaparte, and definitively conquered in 1799.

It reigns on the Toscane until in 1801, when which it is forced by Napoleon to yield to Louis Ier Bourbon Parma, the duchy, transformed into Royaume of Étrurie. It was withdrawn with Vienna, while Louis of Parma, then Élisa Bonaparte, occupied its throne.

Ferdinand is compensated by receiving the grounds for the Archevêché for Salzburg and several other princes ecclesiastical in Germany, and made Prince-voter of the Holy roman Empire.

By the Treated of Presbourg of 1805, Ferdinand gives up Salzburg, annexed by his/her brother, the emperor of Austria, and accepted of Napoleon in the place became duke of Würzburg, a new state created for him of old évêché of Würzburg and reached the Confédération of the Rhine.

It remained in this role until the fall of Napoleon in 1814, when it reviend in Tuscany, where it reigns until his death in 1824.

Marriages and descent

Married the August 15th 1790, with Naples with the princess Louise of Bourbon-Siciles (July 27th 1773 - September 19th 1802), girl of Ferdinand Ier of Deux-Siciles (1751 - 1825) and of Marie-Caroline of Austria (1752 - 1814). They had 6 children:

  3. Léopold II of Tuscany (1797 - 1870)
  4. Marie Louise Josephe Christine Rose (1799 - 1857)
  5. Marie Therese (1801 - 1855)

Married again the May 6th 1821 with Florence with Marie of Saxony ( Its Highness Maria Ferdinande Amalia Xaveria Theresia Josepha Anna Nepomucena Aloysia Johanna Vincentia Ignatia Dominica Franziska of Paula Franziska de Chantal, Duchess of Saxony ) (April 27th 1796 - January 3rd 1865), girl of Maximilien of Saxony, (1759 - 1838) and of Caroline of Bourbon-Parma (1770 - 1804). They did not have a child living of this marriage.
