Felix Leclerc (born the August 2nd 1914 with Tuque, Quebec, Canada - August 8th 1988 with Saint-Pierre-of-the Island-of Orleans, Quebec, Canada) is a Auteur-compositeur-interprète, a Chansonnier, a Poète, a writer and a Acteur Québécois.

Biography

His/her parents, Fabiola Parrot and Léonidas Leclerc, had eleven children. 6th was Felix. He begins studies with the Université of Ottawa, but is obliged to stop because of the Grande Depression.

Leclerc occupies various odd jobs before being employed like radio operator organizer in the towns of Quebec and Three-Rivers of 1934 with 1937. In 1939, it writes scenarios for the account of Radio-Canada to Montreal, developing dramatic parts with the radio, as I remember . It sings its first songs there. He also plays in various dramatic parts, including a man and his sin . He publishes good number of his Scénario S and founds a theatrical company which presents its parts through Quebec.

In 1950, it is discovered by the Parisian business manager Jacques Canetti which invites it to sing in France where it obtains much success. It occurs with the ABC of Paris. It signs then a contract of recording of discs with the mark Polydor. It returns to Quebec in 1953.

It continues to give spectacles. He is also presenter within the framework of various cultural television programs, of which one on the legends of Quebec for Radio-Canada.

The August 13rd 1974, it takes part, with Gilles Vigneault and Robert Charlebois, with the spectacle of Superfrancofête on the Plaines of Abraham in front of more 100  000 spectators. This service is immortalisée on the album I saw the wolf, the fox, the lion .

He dies in his sleep, on August 8th 1988, with the Île of Orleans, where his ashes were dispersed.

Leclerc was the instigator of the tradition of the Québécois chansonniers. It was also a powerful voice of the Québécois Nationalisme.

Homages

  • a monument in its memory was set up with the cemetery of Saint-Pierre-of-the Island-in Orleans in 1989.
  • Various parks, streets, schools and other places public in Quebec were named in its honor.

  • the Price Felix, given by ADISQ to the Québécois singers and interpreters, are named according to him. The Foundation Felix-Leclerc, the Felix-Leclerc Price of the song and the Prix Felix-Leclerc of poetry honor also its memory.
