Fatigue-corrosion

Very comparable with the Stress corrosion, the phenomenon of fatigue-corrosion appears under the combined action of the environment and a cyclic request. It appears by a lowering of the strength of material fatigue. Generally, and taking into account the kinetics of rather slow dissolution and repassivation compared with the mechanical phenomena, this type of damage occurs for low frequency requested parts (oligocyclic fatigue), for example at the time of cycles of heating-cooling of structures. The mechanisms evoked to give an account of the fatigue-corrosion are the same ones as those presented for stress corrosion, and the laboratory tests are in general fatigue tests in the presence of the medium considered carried out either with amplitude of constant deformation, or with amplitude of constant constraint.
