Fabio Casartelli
Fabio Casartelli was a runner Italian Cycliste born the August 16th 1970 with Like and deceased the July 18th 1995 of a fall of bicycle in the descent of the Col of Portet-in Aspet.
Biography
In 1992 it appears with the general public while becoming Olympic champion on road with the plays of Barcelona. By preceding Erik Dekker and Dainis Ozols, it thus allocates the Olympic title, for the last time reserved at the amateurs.It spends professional the following year. ; Professional teams
Its deadly fall
The July 18th 1995, it was killed during a fall in the descent of the Collar of the Portet d' Aspet, in the the Pyrenees, at the time of the fifteenth stage of the Tour de France in which it took part for the second time. The following day, the group, after one minute of silence, took the departure of the stage, which was neutralized. In the same way, Lance Armstrong which will gain a few days later with Limoges, will raise the finger to the sky in homage to its team-member.In October 1995, a stele out of white marble was set up at the place of the drama. It is of habit which the runners of the Tour de France respect, as a sign of meditation and memory of Fabio Casartelli, one minute of silence at this place if the road of the Turn borrows the collar of Portet d' Aspet.
