Armorial bearings

The name Füssen appears for the first time at end of the 12th century in the form Fuzin , then Fiessen or Füssen because of the situation of the city to the feet of the mountain. The feet in the armorial bearings refer to this name. The Sceau is known as of 1295, but the first reproduction goes back to 1317 with inscription “SIGILLVM CIVIVM OF FVZEN” and the three feet. These armorial bearings practically do not vary until the 19th century. The colors gold and black go back to this time but are sometimes replaced by the red or blue and the money. In 1818, the government wished a “decent” position more of the feet but the king Louis I {{er}}, in 1842, confirmed the original armorial bearings. On the significance of the three feet, there exist several legends.
