The Castle of Fère-in-Tardenois
History
The castle of Fère-in-Tardenois was built of 1206 to 1260 by Robert de Dreux, grandson of Louis VI the Large, king de France. It belonged to the first house Valois-Orleans, Valois-Angouleme. In 1528, the mother of François Ier offered it to the constable Anne de Montmorency for her marriage. This one made it transform, it made build in particular its large covered bridge. The Crown confiscates it after the torment of Henry de Montmorency. It is returned shortly after to Charlotte de Montmorency, wife of the Prince de Condé. It thus passes to the branch junior by the Cop, the Princes de Conti, and thereafter with the Duc of Orleans, father of Philippe Égalité. This last partly demolishes it in 1779 to make popularity and sells materials and the pieces of furniture of them. Its creditors seize the remainder and sell it with the biddings, in Paris in 1793.
General information
The castle of Fère-in-Tardenois, classified Historic building, is characterized mainly by the presence of a monumental bridge spanning the ditches (which are dry today). This bridge, which, all things considered, strongly points out the Château of Chenonceau, comprised two stages formerly: the first was used as passage while the upper floor was a room devoted to the play and the fashionable life. A broad door surrounded by two turrets opens on the court, a flanked irregular heptagon of seven circular towers today in ruins.
The field of hunting of almost 250 hectares belonging formerly to the castle is state-owned property today and constitutes the current forest of Fère-in-Tardenois.
The last owner of the castle, Raymond of Tamerie, buried near the ruins, made some of which at the General advice of Aisne.
The charm of these ruins as well as the beauty of the places make that a luxury hotel is installed in buildings of time near the castle (Fashionable country inn of the Castle **** NR).
