Eugenie Smet
Eugenie Smet (1825 - 1871) in Marie religion of Providence, founder of the Auxiliatrices was born on March 25th 1825 in Lille, of a family enracinée in a long tradition of faith, this one being expressed through the piety of its time. However the 19th century was one time strongly marked by the devotion with the hearts of the Purgatoire. This devotion being often expressed by an insistence on the need for suffering and of expier in this world, to shorten the sufferings after death.
Its faith, its goals
Animated of a faith which moves the mountains and of a communicative love of the life, Eugenie Smet founds the Auxiliatrices Purgatory, for a universal mission: “ to go from the depths of the Purgatory until the last limits of the ground ”In this spirit it invites Auxiliatrices to bind to a particular work and to be let stop by no border not even that of death.
Initiated with the spiritulaity ignatienne, since its education with the Sacred Heart of Lille, Eugenie Smet adopts the Rules and the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus, on March 25th 1859, after three years of gropings and research.
Biography
- 1836-1843 : It is high with the Sacred Heart of Lille
- 1843-1853: It leads an intense apostolic life to Loos - lez-Lille
- November 1853: She discovers her mission in the Church
- 1855: the Curé of Ars confirms it in its mission
- January 19th, 1856: It arrives at Paris and founds the Institute of the Auxiliatrices hearts of the Purgatory with Barouillère on June 30th, 1956
- 1859: It adopts the Rules and the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus
- 1863: Foundation of the house of Nantes
- August 4th, 1867: Call for the mission of China
- 1869: Foundation of the house of Brussels
- February 7th, 1871: She dies in Paris, at the 45 years age
- 1957: She is béatifiée by Pie XII
