Eugene Boudin
Eugene-Louis Boudin , born with Honfleur (Apple-brandy) the July 12th 1824 and died in Deauville (Apple-brandy) the August 8th 1898, was one of the first painters French to seize the Paysage S outside a workshop. Great painter of painting marinades, it is regarded as one of the precursors of the Impressionnisme.
Biography
The career of paper maker
Eugene Boudin was born with Honfleur, in Normandy, wire of Léonard-Sebastien Boudin and his wife Boudin Marie-Happiness - born Buffet. His/her marine father, , works on Bateau X ensuring the connection Le Havre - Hamburg.In 1835, its family moves in Le Havre, where his/her father establishes it as clerk at the Imprimeur Joseph Morlent, then in the paper maker Alphonse Lemasle. It started to work as of the following year, as assistant in a shop of paper maker-picture framer.
Artistic beginnings
In 1844, then 20 years old, Eugene Boudin founds his own paper mill. Within the framework of its work, it came into contact with Artiste S of the surroundings, in particular Constant Troyon, Eugene Isabey, Charles Baudelaire, etc Eugene was then put to draw, then at 22 years - encouraged by Jean-François Millet and Thomas Couture - it gave up the world commercial and launched out in an artistic career. It follows courses to the council school of drawing of Le Havre and does not devote itself then more but to painting.In 1850, thanks to the support of the journalist Alphonse Karr as well as Constantin Troyon and Thomas Seams, it receives municipal council of Le Havre per annum a Grant of 1.200 francs, in order to go to study painting with Paris during three years. Thus, on June 30th, 1851, it joined the capital and studies painting within the workshop of Eugene Isabey as with the Louvre where it is registered as raises copyist. Eugene Boudin carries out there copies of paintings of Masters for some amateurs, which enables him to look further into its training.
As of 1855, it adopts a particular rhythm of life spending its winters at Paris and its summers in Normandy in Honfleur, while remaining regularly in Brittany with Douarnenez, Tréboul and its surroundings.
Boudin makes his first exposure in 1857 in Paris and the same year he manages to sell a score of his fabrics at the time of a Auction in Le Havre.
During the year 1859, the painter - then 35 years old - exposes his first fabric to the Salon in Paris. It is pointed out for its atmospheres and its Pastel S originals, and receives councils and homages of the Poète Charles Baudelaire. It also binds friendship with Gustave Courbet which, having noticed a painting of Boudin in a Parisian tradesman, sought to meet its author. It meets as the painter Dutch Johan Barthold Jongkind and especially Claude Monet as Eugene Boudin will initiate with painting in sport.
The January 14th 1863, Eugene Boudin Marie with Marie-Anne Guedes, born the April 17th 1835 in Rusaden, close to Hanvec. In February of the same year, it settles again in Paris but in September returns in Normandy to Trouville, near Courbet which is with Deauville and of Monet and Jongkind which resides at Honfleur.
After a course fine stay with Brussels 1870, it continues its work of painter of navy.
The impressionist turning
In 1874, it takes part in the first impressionist exposure “”, which is held in Paris in the studios of the Photographe Felix Nadar. Thereafter, the impressionist exposures will be held in the buildings of the merchant of art Paul Durand-Ruel.Starting from this date, it will pass for one of the precursors of this movement, although it never regarded itself as a large innovator. Its growing reputation enabled him to accomplish many voyages in the years 1870. He visited in particular the Flandres, the Netherlands, the south of the France as well as the Italy, where he discovers various artistic currents of the 19th century.
He continues to expose to Paris and receives the medal of the third place of the Salon of 1881 with his work the Meuse, in Rotterdam . In 1886, several of its works appear with the great impressionist exposure organized to New York by Durand-Ruel. He obtains then the gold medal at the time of the World Fair of Paris of 1889 with the two fabrics which he exposes: a sunset and Navy - the Pilot S . The same year, his wife dies on March 24th.
Patient, it will be installed in 1892 with Villefranche-sur-Mer, on the Riviera. The same year, Eugene Boudin is crowned knight of the Légion of honor by the painter Symbolist Pierre Puvis de Chavannes who had in addition convinced it to join the National company of the fine arts. He will undertake regular voyages to Venice until in 1895 in search of inspirations.
In 1898 - whereas it is with Paris and feels to weaken - it requires to die “vis-a-vis the sea” and is made transport to Deauville. He dies the August 8th in the morning in the Breloque villa with 8, rue Oliffe, and is buried the August 12th with the Cimetière Saint-Vincent - in the district of Montmartre - in Paris.
Its work
Eugene Boudin was a marine painter, expert as regards returned of all that is related to the Mer and to his shores. He painted in particular many paintings describing the life of the fishermen on the port S and the markets; like that of the middle-class families of the 19th century on the Beach S of Normandy.The importance of the Sky and the atmospheric effects in its paintings was worth to him to be called the “king of the ciels” by the French painter Camille Corot. It indeed attached a great importance to the sun, the clouds, the sky and their purposes changing on the Paysage moving.
During its life, it will have painted nearly 4.500 tables and will have left as many Dessin S, Pastel S and Aquarelle S.
