Etienne Bacrot , born the January 22nd 1983 with Lille (France), is a international Large-Master (GMI) of failures French.
Biography
World champion of less than 10 years with Bratislava in 1993, it repeats in less than 12 years with Sao Laurenzo (Brésil) like partly fast in Disneyland Paris in 1995 and becomes the same year international Maître following excellent results in competitions.This same year, it is distinguished by cancelling vis-a-vis old the World champion traditional parts, Vladimir Kramnik, at the time of the tournament Intel of Paris (0,5 to 1,5). Let us note that at the time of these famous matches, it beats Levon Aronian (Albert 1995) then the former world champion Vasily Smyslov 5-1 in a duel in 1996. In 1997, it loses against Viktor Kortchnoï, a former candidate with the world title, 4-2. In 1998, it beats Robert Hübner 3.5-2.5. In 1999, it loses against Alexander Beliavsky 3,5-2,5 but beats Judith Polgar, the best player of the world in Bastia (into semi-rapid). In 2000, it makes good match with Anatoly Karpov (Cannes 2000, multiple rates/rhythms) then loses 4 to 2 its match vis-a-vis Nigel Short, the challenger of Garry Kasparov for the world title in 1993. In 2001, it makes tie 3-3 with Emil Sutovsky one of the best Israeli players. In 2002, it beats Boris Gelfand 3,5-2,5. Lastly, in 2004, it gains against Ivan Sokolov 3,5-2,5.
Bacrot consecutively gained the individual championship of France to five resumptions (of 1999 with 2003), and did not take part in the editions of the following years for various reasons. In 2004, it carries out a perfect performance of 11 points out of 11 with the championship of France by teams with NAO Chess Club, which enables him to become the first French to pass the bar of: 2700 Elo . It also gains to two recovery prestigious Coupe of Europe of the clubs in 2003 and 2004 with the team of the NAO.
Since this entry in the club of super-GMIs, it is invited in the greatest international tournaments. In 2005, it gains with Moscow the Karpov-Poikovsky trophy. The year 2006 will be difficult for Etienne. Invited for the first time in three of the strongest closed tournaments reserved for the elite Chess tournament Corus, Linares, or MTel of Sofia, it disappointed at the time of the whole of these tournaments while finishing regularly in the last places. A few months later, Etienne Bacrot creates the exploit at the time of the Olympiade of failures 2006 of Turin. Indeed, it carries out a performance with more: 2800 Elo by beating on several occasions players of the world elite, in particular Spoiled Kamsky. It takes down a bronze medal thus.
At the time of the Chess Classic Mainz 2006 , Bacrot qualifies for the Championship of the World 2007 of random failures Fischer which will oppose it to Levon Aronian by gaining a tournament of qualifications with the participations of players like Alexander Morozevich, Alexander Grischuk or Rustam Kasimdzhanov.
It has a son named Alexandre and a named girl Victoria with her partner Nathalie Bonnafous, who is itself player of failures by posting a Elo in the neighborhoods from the 2100.
It currently forms part of the Parisian team Chess 15.
It is made eliminate in June 2007 from the cycle of the championship of the World 2007 with the 1st turn of the matches of the candidates (for whom it had been qualified thanks to its good performances with World cup FIDE 2005) by the American Gata Kamsky (on the score of 0,5-3,5 at the end of 4 parts, the match then having been stopped because the variation of 3 points was impossible to catch up with at the time of the 2 last parts envisaged).
