Eschweiler
Eschweiler is a town of approximately 56.000 inhabitants in the district Kreis Aachen in Rhineland-of-North-Westphalia in Germany. It is an industrial and administrative town surrounded by greenery: the forests Propsteier Wald, Stadtwald, Bovenberger Wald and the artificial lake Blausteinsee (C. - with-D. Lake Pierre-Blue). The downtown area is crossed by the India river.
The very first reference to the town of Eschweiler, goes back to the year 828 when Eginhard, the biographer of Charlemagne, mentions it in an official way under its name of then Ascvilare. 4500 years before Jesus Christ, at the time Neolithic era, the north of Eschweiler had already been a place of dwelling.
The exploitation of the coal is already mentioned in 1394. In 1838, the mining company Eschweiler Bergwerksverein is founded, the first company shareholder of the Prussia. The end of the extraction of coal in the area caused a reconversion. Powerplant with Lignite.
Several stations: Eschweiler Hbf (principal), Eschweiler-Talbahnhof (power station), Eschweiler-Aue, Eschweiler-West, Eschweiler-Nothberg, Eschweiler-Weisweiler. Several exits on the highways A 4 and has 44. Trunk road B 264.
Eschweiler is one of the centers of Carnaval of Germany.
