Ernest Marie Louis Doudart de Lagrée , born the March 31st 1823 with Saint-Vincent-with-Mercuze (Isere) and dead the March 12th 1868 in Tong-Tchouen, in the Yunnan, is a sailor and exploring French.

Raise Polytechnic school in 1842, candidate of 1e class in 1845, lieutenant in 1854, it makes the countryside of the Crimea and is decorated with the Légion of honor on this occasion. In 1862, it leaves for the Cochinchine, and concludes the treaty which allots to France a protectorate on the Kampuchea on July 5th, 1862 with Saigon. Doudart de Lagrée returns to France in 1864, before setting out again with the rank of Commander, in 1866 for an scientific exhibition on the Mekong, with for second the commander Francis Garnier; it explores in particular the site of Angkor in 1866 with the photographer Emil Gsell; it continues its exploration but dies of disease in 1868.

Its name was given to several buildings French National marine:

  • a destroyer of open sea launched in 1886 and disarmed in 1905.
  • a launch drain-hole launched in 1909 and disarmed in 1941.
  • an sloop-escort ship launched in 1961 and withdrawn from the active service in 1991.
