Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover
The prince Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover ( Ernst August Wilhelm Adolf Georg Friedrich ), 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale, (born with Hanover the September 21st 1845 - deceased with Gmunden (Austria) the November 14th 1923) is the only son of king Georges V of Hanover (1819 - 1878) and of Marie of Saxony-Altenbourg.
Biography
“Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover” was the chief of the Maison of Hanover but never reigned, unlike his/her father the king Georges V of Hanover and his/her son “Ernest-Auguste III of Hanover” which reached in an effective way the ducal throne of Brunswick in 1913. “Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover” became also the chief of the whole of the Maison of Brunswick (the Maison of Hanover is a branch junior by the Maison of Brunswick).
Ernest-Auguste became the crown prince to the Royaume of Hanover (member of the German Confédération) of 1851 (when his/her father became king de Hanovre) and until in 1866 remained it (when the kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia after the Guerre austro-Prussian).
When the reigning duke Guillaume VIII of Brunswick died in 1884, “Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover” inherited his personal possessions, but it could not inherit the duchy of Brunswick because of opposition of Prussia whereas the successional law of the duchy of Brunswick indicated it: it resulted from it a constitutional crisis in Brunswick (vacancy of the ducal throne) which was untied only with the accession with the ducal throne of Ernest-Auguste III of Hanover. Ernest-Auguste II of Hanover renonça then to its rights on the duchy of Brunswick in favor of his/her son Ernest-Auguste III of Hanover.
3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale in 1878 (with died of his/her father) and British prince of the House of Hanover, Ernest-Auguste had all his confiscated titles and British honors when it chooses the camp of Germany during the First World War.
