Ensisheim

Ensisheim is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace. Its inhabitants is called Ensisheimois.

Geography

Ensisheim is located in a potassic basin. The Potasse was exploited in the area until in 2002.

History

  • the November 7th 1492, a Météorite fell into a field from corn close to the village. Once collected, the meteorite presented a weight of 127 kg.
  • the December 20th 1869, Ferdinand Jean ALTMEYER, condemned to died by the Court of Assizes of Haut-Rhin to have cut the throat of a fellow-prisoner of the central house of Ensisheim, is guillotine on a public place of this city.

  • the January 11th 2006, Michel Habig, mayor UMP of Ensisheim required of the municipal services to destroy a camping of Roumanian caravans by fire. This camping, which it describes as “Bidonville”, is located on a municipal ground, an old square of mines, which had been invested by an about sixty gendarmes and police officers a few days before. The mayor and 4 municipal employees will appear on March 13rd, 2006 before the magistrates' court of Strasbourg.

    • Finally, their lawsuit took place the Monday May 15th 2006. M.Habig was condemned to six months of suspended sentence et444.111.500.000 euros of fine. The 4 employees were released.
    • the procedure is not finished since a person Rom, recognized as victim should be compensated, following a lawsuit which will take place in September 2006. Associations APPONA 68 and Fnassat, which went civil part were seen déboutées. They will make call of this decision, to be able to make recognize the statute of victim of the other families absent at the time of the lawsuit.

  • the museum of Regency shelters the Météorite fallen at the 15th century (on Nov. 7, 1492, of the Julien calendar) on the commune.
This museum is also the place of a world meeting of the hunters of météorites.

. It is advisable to recall that this event was for Maximilien 1st more important than the fall of Andalusia, or the discovery of Christophe Colomb.
  • In Ensisheim is established, downtown full, one of the six central houses of France (230 places).
