Enguerrand of Metz

Enguerrand or Angilram or Angelramme was a bishop of Metz, died in 791. It took part in the Carolingian Renaissance. Catholic saint, his festival is celebrated the October 25th

Monk of the abbey of Saint-Avold, the king Pip the Brief the fact of naming bishop of Metz by the pope into 768. In 770 he becomes the seventh abbot of abbot of Senones. He becomes a large friend and near collaborator to Charlemagne, he accompanied this one in all his voyages. In 784 he becomes his chaplain.

He created a scriptorium of the cathedral of Metz

It was said that towards 785 it had given (or that it had received) to the pope Adrien Ier the Capitula Angilramni , a collection of canon law touching with the ministry for the bishops. It would have written it to be denied those which showed it to violate this canon law while residing at Charlemagne and not in its diocese of Metz. The Capitula is concidéré today like a forgery of, of the same origin than the Fausses décrétales.
