A Finn is a Dériveur monotype of small size, equipped with a large drift and only one veil enverguée on a swivelling Mât.

The Finn was conceived in Sweden in 1949, by the régatier and naval architect Richard Sarby who was also….hairdresser. As of 1952, it was promoted Olympic series at the time of the Olympic Games of Helsinki (Finland). It is barred as a recluse. It is a boat very sporting, light, handy and fast. It requires a heavy cox (more than 85 kg) but especially large and athletic, to provide the maximum restoring moment. He recognizes himself by far by his mast arched backwards. It is relatively rare apart from the sail of competition.

One of the most famous champions of End is Danish Paul Elvström, several times gold medal with the Olympic Games.

The French cox Serge Maury gained the gold medal in End in 1976 (OJ of Munich, with tests of veil with Kiel on the the Baltic).

The current President of the International Olympic committee, Jacques Rogge, practiced the End with high level and was even selected Olympic Belgian in this category.
