Emile Friant
Biography:
Emile Friant was born with Dieuze on April 16th 1863. Its family flees the Prussian invasion of 1870 in order to settle with Nancy. He briefly attends the school Loritz, before being located very early by Theodore Devilly, director of the École of the Art schools of Nancy. Its training of the techniques of paintings at the school of beautiful arts, compound to an obvious talent enable him to expose to the Living rooms of beautiful arts of Nancy as of 1878, whereas it is old only 15 years.
Its course of artist
Its exposure to the Living rooms of beautiful arts of Nancy is noticed, and the artist sees himself granted a grant. This purse enables him to leave Nancy, and to leave to study with the École of the Art schools of Paris. It attends a painter there: Alexandre Cabanel of which he becomes the pupil.
Its distinctions Emile Friant is rewarded by the second Prix for Rome in 1883 for Oedipus whom curses his Polynice son. In 1889, at the time of the World Fair, it receives the gold medal for its table All Saints' day . Its future is then ensured, its work is recognized, from the orders of fabrics emanate from all Europe and the United States.
Its style Friant is a painter naturalist, pertaining to the artistic current of the École of Nancy (although its painting is not in the style Art nouveau). It carries out mainly scenes of the daily life or portraits. His/her friends or his family very often being used to him as model. At the time its style is sometimes judged like too realistic. Indeed, the realism of works of Friant is close to the precision of a photograph, new technology which impassioned it.
Its professional path In addition to its functions of painter, Friant exempted courses at the national school of beautiful arts of Nancy. It was there member of the management committee of the school of Nancy. However its contributions within this artistic current are weak compared to the works carried out for its own account.
