Elect (in Greek modern: Ήλιδα/ old Ilida , Greek: Ήλις / Ễlis , in Dorien Άλις / Ãlis ) was a Greek quoted located at the North-West of the Peloponnese, in the west of the Arcadie.
It was the capital of the Élide. The town of Olympie dependant on its territory, Élis had the responsibility of organize the ancient Olympic Games.
In spite of an excavation campaign, the ancient city is very badly known. Description that makes of it Pausanias in the chapters 23 and 24 of book VI of its Description of Greece , written towards 150 a. J. - C., constitutes the most complete source about it.
