El Cedral

General presentation

Since 1977 and until our days, the archaeological excavations of the site of El Cedral, located in the State of San Luis Potosi at the Mexico, brought many bones of animals, human remainders (gone back to: 31000 years) and of artefacts lithic: such as circular scrapers in quartz microcrystal produced by percussion discovered by the team of Lorenzo and Mirambell in 1999, in geological layers gone back to: 35000 years (laboratory of the INAH - analyzes N°305).

Other tools such as a stone of lime/chalk in the shape of core recovered of a layer gone back to: 15000 years.

A hearth containing a piece of charcoal gone back to: 33000 with: 35000 years as well as tarsi proboscibiens (mastodons or mammoths) worked and ringed.

Three other rustic hearths, contemporaries between them, were dated between: 26000 and: 28000 years, whereas two other hearths of human activities were gone back respectively to: 36000 with: 40000 years for oldest and of: 21000 with: 23000 years for most recent.

All the hearths in layers or are layers superimposed. Their sizes vary from 60 cm 1,70 meter from diameter. All contain many small fragments of wood and burned bones, which allowed a dating of each existing hearth. (Lorenzo and Mirambell: 1999)
