The Seigneurie of Beirut is one of the strongholds of the Royaume of Jerusalem.
History
Beirut was conquered in 1110 by Baudouin Ier, king de Jérusalem, which gave it to Foulques de Guines. The city was conquered and occupied by Saladin of 1187 with 1197. In 1204, the city is given by Amaury II of Lusignan to Jean d' Ibelin, the Vieux lord of Beirut . The city was definitively taken in 1291.
Geography
It is the seigniory more in north of the Royaume of Jerusalem, located between the Comté of Sidon and the Comté of Tripoli.
Feudality
Suzerain: the prince de Galilée and of TibériadeIt can appear curious that this seigniory is vassal of prince de Tibériade rather than of the county of Sidon, because this county precisely separates the seigniory from the principality. The reason is probably the following one: Beirouth was taken before Sidon, therefore the county was not created yet when Baudouin inféoda Beirut in Foulques de Guines. The city being very far away from the center of the kingdom, it placed the new lord under the protection of vassal nearer.
