Edward Charles Stuart Baker is a British ornithologist , born in 1864 and dead the April 16th 1944.
Professional path
Baker makes its studies with Stratford-upon-Avon. It follows the example of his father and becomes police officer within the imperial police force in service in India which it will be used as 1883 with 1911. It finishes its career with the rank of general inspector. In 1910, it enters the service of criminal investigation. In 1911, it turns over in Great Britain where it occupies the function of officer chief of the police force of the wearing of London. It takes its retirement in 1925.Baker becomes then mayor of Croydon. It is made official Ordre of the British Empire in 1920 in reward of the services rendered during the First World War. It is also made companion of the Ordre of the Empire of the Indies.
He was an excellent tennis player and a large hunter. He had lost his left arm because of a panther with Silchar in the Assam, he was reversed by a Gayal and was trampled by a Indian Rhinocéros. He also takes part in the advisory committees of the government on the protection of the birds and is, of 1913 with 1936, honorary secretary and treasurer of the British Ornithologists' Union. He is also member of the zoological Société of London and of the Société linnéenne of London.
Lionel Walter Rothschild (1868-1937) dedicates the scientific name of the to him Yuhina to white nape of the neck, Yuhina bakeri , in 1926.
