Edouard-Raymond Fabre
Edouard-Raymond Fabre (September 15th 1799 - July 16th 1854) was a politician and a Canadian bookseller. He was mayor of Montreal of 1849 with 1851.
The historians know few things on its youth. About 1822, it left towards France to be formed with the trade of bookstore. On its return, it took in Montreal the direction of the bookstore founded here in 1815 by the Bossange firm of Paris and became the chief of the first important house of this kind in Montreal, the Fabre bookstore and Gravel.
Married in May 1826 with Luce Perrault, it had of them five children, of which the bishop Edouard-Charles Fabre, the elder one, Hortense, woman to sir George-Etienne Cartier, and the lawyer Hector Fabre, Grand friend of Louis-Joseph Papineau, it is him which suggested to him fleeing towards the United States at the time of the Rébellion of the Patriots.
During the Years 1830, it works with the Canadian Maison of trade and meets in the Hôtel Nelson with Dominique Mondelet, Like-Seraph Cherrier, Pierre-Dominique Debartzch and Pierre-Dominique Larocque. In 1835, it manages the funds of the patriotic Union.
In 1848, it is elected alderman in the district Is of Montreal. Become president of the committee of finances, he is elected mayor the following year, in 1849, then he is re-elected the following year. Under its administration, the city fights against a new epidemic of Choléra and is opposed to the insurrection Tories.
Deceased the July 16th 1854, its praise will be pronounced by Louis-Joseph Papineau itself.
