Edem Kodjo
Edem Kodjo (born Edouard Kodjovi Kodjo the May 23rd 1938 in Sokodé, Togo) is a Togolese Political personality. Prime Minister of Togo of the April 23rd 1994 with the August 20th 1996 and of the June 9th 2005 with the September 20th 2006.
It is graduate National school of French administration (promotion Blaise Pascal, left in 1964).
Of 1969 with 1971, it was one of the leaders of the Rassemblement of the Togolese people (then sole party). He was Minister for the economy, then foreign affairs in the Années 1970.
On the international plan, he was governor of the Fonds international currency of 1967 with 1973 and secretary-general of the Organization of African Unity of 1978 with 1983. With the head of this continental organization, it faced the crisis of the Western Sahara, and was at the origin of the Plan of Lagos.
Convinced democrat, it opposes authoritarianism growing in sole party RPT towards the end of the year 1970. To counter its prestige, the Eyadema general, was opposed to its action with the head of the Organization of African Unity. At the end of its mandate to the head of the OAU, Edem KODJO exiled itself in France. With the beginning of the year 1990, with the point of the combat for the advent of a multi-party democracy, it created the Togolese Union for the democracy. One applicant of the opposition to the presidential election of 1993, it boycotted finally the poll. He becomes Prime Minister the following year after a victory with the legislative elections. After its departure of primature in 1996, it reinforced its party thanks to fusion with 3 other opposition parties and created the Panafrican patriotic Convergence. June 9th, 2005, the president Faure Gnassingbé Eyadema invites it to form a government and to restore the calm one in the country following the disorders which have occurred after the death of Gnassingbé Eyadema. Edem Kodjo is also author of many works whose And tomorrow Africa , the occident, of the decline to the challenge and At the beginning was the sword .
