EUREX

Larger Futures market of the world by the number of treated contracts (nearly 1,3 billion contracts in annual rhythm to semi-2005). Primarily electronic market, it born in 1998 of the fusion of DTB (Deutsche Terminbörse) and SOFFEX (Swiss Options and Future Financial Exchange) with an aim of competing with LIFFE.

Its leading products are the future on German Government loans , which constitute the directing market of interest rates in the medium and long term of the euro area:

  • the contract on loans at 10 years, known as contract Bund S , of which it is currently negotiated (June 2005) on average 1,5 million contracts per day, is 150 billion euros nominal;
  • the contract on Government loans at 5 years, known as contract Bobl , of which it is currently negotiated (June 2005) on average 870.000 contracts per day, is 87 billion euros nominal;
  • and finally the contract on Government loans at 2 years, known as contract Schatz , of which it is currently negotiated (June 2005) on average 800.000 contracts per day, is 80 billion euros nominal.

Eurex also dimensions many derivative products on actions, of which options and a rather active contract on the index DJ Euro STOXX 50 .
