Duxford

Duxford is a small town of the the United Kingdom, located in the county of Cambridge.

General information

Located at approximately 15 kilometers in the south of Cambridge, Duxford is especially known for its Aérodrome which was an important air base during the Second world war. The base of Duxford lodged in particular the " Big Wing" of Douglas Bader. After the conflict, Duxford was a time a base of USAF, it lodges today celebrates it Imperial War Museum.

The museum

This air museum comprises an important collection of planes and tanks, it off lodges also the collections of the Duxford Aviation Society' S collection Historic Civil Airliners, which exposes in particular the Concorde nº 101, a Comet 4 as well as a fuselage of the shuttle Hermes.

The museum recently grew rich by the collections of the American Air Museum in Britain.

The aerodrome is used as ground of evolutions for the many historical planes maintained in particular rich person or company, association, in-flight status in Duxford by the museum. Duxford lodges in particular the Old Flying Machine Company of late the Ray Hanna and The Fighter Collection of Stephen Grey. Duxford has of this fact the most important concentration of Spitfire in Europe.
